Back from Salzburg! Wow, what an amazing week. I attended violin master classes at the Mozarteum conservatory. I was last there 10 years ago and everything is just as I remembered. I sat through
Eduard Schmieder's class. This man is one of the greatest teachers I have ever encountered. Through the course of a 45-minute lesson, I watched him help improve a student's playing 10 times over. He captivated the class with his playing. He was truly speaking to us through the violin. Interestingly enough, because he flew to Salzburg via London, the airline would not let him bring his violin on board the plane. He said this is the first time in his life he has not had his violin with him. He seemed such a broken man.
